dreamers

The three dreamers

One man in Otherworld does not know his dreaming keeps a world alive. Three fragments of his soul must cross to him before the dreaming goes silent.

Pilgrim. Drifter. Delver. They meet at the junction because the centre is calling them home, and the edge is racing to flatten them first.

Naimor

the Pilgrim · road-self

Naimor

Carrier of the unsaid name.

Naimor walks. When pain comes, he moves through it. He trusts roads more than rooms: kind, stubborn, road-worn. He carries a pack, an iPod from another world, and the sense that the road is a practice.

Eleven days in, the dog sits down in the red dust and refuses to move. Naimor sits beside him. The body knows before the mind does.

gift
direction. the patience to keep walking when the road bends out of sight.
shadow
certainty. the living territory becomes a beautiful map.
knife
walking. what kept him moving may keep him from arriving.
dog
Nelson. the stubborn hooligan who can stop the whole myth by sitting down.
fate
pays the launch cost. spends himself to put a world into orbit.
Nova Rai

the Drifter · cosmic key

Nova Rai

The light that walks.

Nova Rai moves. She sings, she burns, she dances ahead of pain. She is not walking toward anything; she is moving away from stillness. She arrives as voltage, beauty, motion. She is the one who says: if you feel it, it's real.

Her wound is not that she does not love. It is that she does, and cannot say it in time.

gift
light. the dreaming made audible.
shadow
cannot stay inside love when love becomes still.
knife
motion. the running that once kept her alive.
dog
Madiba. the one being she can love without performance.
fate
the reason the journey is worth refusing to die for.
Charlie C

the Delver · survival-fragment

Charlie C

The friend who is also the door.

Charlie C descends. Caves, shame, rage, the places polite people refuse to name. Brutal, funny, alive. Everyone sees his danger; almost nobody sees his labor. He is not cocaine. Cocaine was the door handle. Charlie was the locked room.

He finds her. He saves her. He slays what hurt her. And she does not thank him.

gift
furnace. the document of what was survived.
shadow
amplification without guidance.
knife
the cave. what once opened him may close him in.
dog
none of his own. Madiba leans on him the morning after; the dog goes to the one who needs carrying.
fate
“The night called and I went. The cave called and I'm going. It was worth it.”

the question

What if the thing that saved you
is now the thing destroying you?

Others walk the edges of the book: the three dogs (Nelson with Naimor, Madiba with Nova, Clay with the Witness), the Broken Queen, the Golden One, the Witness.
They are held in the chamber until the chapters call them.
